New Plant & New Plan

Normally, when we judge a man successful or not, would company with these questions: How much momey he earn per month? What (how many) car(s) he owns? How many flats he has?...It is very sad to judge a person by material. All these parameters themselves mean nothing, but, sometimes, give people reason to work hard for their life. Yes, in our life, we do need, more ore less, parameters, like making plan before star working, which could help and clear when you are at work.
I bought a bulb of plant which still at its(new plant) early stage of life and it will grow up and blossom. I am going to record its grow by taking photos every two weeks(about). Recording a plant's grow, watch its change and grow is an amazing thing. And at the same time I would like to make my own
MA course plans: Mark down my plans (shortterm one and long term one), what aims I am going to achieve in different terms ?What did I do? What have I done? What am I doing?

Work Present--First Friday

1 a journey of life

Waiting at train station, on a bus, in a cafe, in subway, reflection of journey of life, during this, we accompanied with loeneliness and waiting, full of this

2 explore time.
Object concept to present. Time and space can be felt or noticed. When can time be notised e.g. Two objects at different speed (parallax?0 through this disjuncture, we can feel/sense time. Draw attention to time

Woma without any movement, but things never stop moving, this comparison reveals/exposes time

Emphasising the concept of time because you are emphasising the differenc ein time in ne frame

3 relationship between individual human being and society

Human being is just a small element, we are just a small part in this world. We are not free.

Lots of rules, we have to follow hidden rules, invisible rules. We can't be whatever we want. Here the woman's attitude of doing nothing is sign that she is against all of thsi control. But although she stops, everything else goes on.

Don't wish to follow some rules, but to be against it is first to stop, no longer follow. (She stays there, but other things keep moving. )

Individual cannot affect the greater mass of society. If one stops, everyone else simply continues
What comes after the stop?

7 main scene before doing some filming

This is a short video I made and present on last Friday, and it has not finish due to many technical problems I faced. Like a scene that waiting in a train station, trains pass quickly behind her, trains slowly arrival and depart, does not show the emotion. The cinema piece which the lighting is not clear...And some other technical skills....Like the quality of image has too much noise? How to solve out all these problems?

SEE THINGS FAMILAR IN ANOTHER WAY

Can you recognize where is it?

Raining street at late afternoon, London. Captured on a bus.

Same view, same angle, however, human eyes see different image from the camera.

Money- an experimental-theatre with brilliant stage design

I strong recommend whom interesting in setting design visiting Shunt for "Money" ( Name of the play which basic on Zola's nineteenthcentury novel 'L'Argent', about financial speculation ). The play showed in a brilliant design stage which is a metal cube as you can see from the photo. The theatre is in a warehouse which is a bar where audience would have a cup of drink before the show stars.

The theatre space (cube) is divided into three floors, and auditorium are two lines of seat opposite to each other on the first floor. The first and second layer of floor are made of perspex glass, which means audiences sitting in the first can have an angle of looking up watching performing on second or voyeuristically peer acting space below. What intriguing images are showed. Not like traditional theatre watching play in front of you. And the well combination of lighting design greatly present this special acting space. During the play, audiences will be invited to the upper floor which is a cube glass stage, where can view voyeuristically acting below through perspex glass, like the floor below audience( first floor) and the floor below that. Standing on the second floor peer the lowest stage which is is divided in two rooms, a livingroom which is 19th century style with a pram, the other room is a sauna with two men lying there.

What is more, this is an interactive performance. Actor transport audience in to the play being one part of this play. For instance, during the play, they began to earn more and more money, audiences were invited to upper floor having a cup of free champagne. This scene: audiences with champagne is one part of the celebration.

Can not describe clearly of this play's cuttingedge stage design due to my poor English. What I try is to share something new and creative in our study area.

Gift-- A Moment When They Were Giving Their Points Of View

Gift- One Week Project-My understanding of gift

At the begining, I wanted to make a video which is giving gifts to people in the street and record their reactions when they were given a gift from a stranger. There would be many different reactions when a stranger give you a gift, Some want to know what is the free gift is? And is free, why not? Some who do not believe nowaday society has free gifts refuse.

However, I changed my mind, because it is not my understanding of gift. I re-though: what is gift? How to present? ... Then I interviewed students, some I already know, some I haven not met befor, in our college, woodwork shop, BA painting studio, theatre and our studio, about their view point of gift, and they are happy to help even some of them I have not met before. During the interview, when they were talking about their understanding of gift, I found that is gift for me. What is amazing is that they did not noticed that is gift, and that is my understanding of gift, give without giving back and you do not notice that is a gift when you give it to other. I made a video recording the moment, a gift, and say "thank you" to who being interviewed at the end of the video.

What is more, I notice that, some of our classmate did very well in this project. After they presented their works, which created a discussion. We kept on talking, thinking and discussing basic on their works. It is so great.

HOW TO DEFINE A PIECE OF WORK OF ART

How to define a piece of work of art?

The boundary between art and life becomes vague. Last weekend, saw a piece of art work which is mirror presenting on the wall as other normal paintings in an exhibition room. I stood in front of this piece watching another me on an opposite world. Yes, the mirror in this exhibition defiantly is a piece of art work, however, if it was presenting in my bedroom, it would be a normal mirror only. Therefore, a question that how to define a object as an piece of art work make me thinking. According to the theme Mimisis which basic define art as a reflection of life. However , performance is not a reflection of life and not express a pre-existing identity, but embody certain social and historical possibilities and engender identity through these acts. How to define all these concept? Performance which is not a reflection of life also belongs to art ( according to the theme Mimisis) which is reflecting life. So, I am confuse.

When it comes to my personal research, I am trying to film a few minutes's video which is basic of daily stuff to raise a concept about a relationship between human being and society, and I don not have any professional filming skill, Thus, will my practical video looks like a normal one only filming for fun? How to make it close to art? Concept first or must basic on skill or must both?

Black fear -- an event being created by the participation of visitors

Black fear--installation--event

Black fear, an rt piece created by Miroslaw Balka, which people walking in the darkness and don not know the end until hit the end. Reducing sense of vision leads to increase other, like listing and feeling, being more sensitive, thus, an tension is being created by the darkness space, which is visiting with strongly feeling and various emotions are being inspired as well.

My personal thinking after visiting the black, it is a chance to truly experience your life. Why? It is reflection of life that each day people keep moving, working hard, to achieve aims one by one and we never know what our future looks like, but keep moving. And during walking in the darkness, black metal box and because you can not see clearly, you feel uncomfortable and being careful. Some one past by you, or hit on some one and so on. And all of these are parts of life that involving happiness, suffering or feeling lost...Therefore, Black fear is more than an installation, is an event being created by the participation of visitors and experience.

Theatre: how to present performing which is two or more activities acting at the same time but different time or space? ?

Theatre: how to present performing which is two or more activities acting at the same time but different time or space? ?

In theatre, a scene which is two issues happen in the same time but different locations or same location but different time is familiar, therefore, I want to do some textings about showing more than one 3 dimension on the stage at the same time. For example, how to present performing which is two or more activities acting at the same time but different time or space?

Currently, I took some photos at the same location and different time in one day, then combined them as one. Through this photo could you feel time existing (or time pasting)? Could you see a set of activities happen at the same time? Or various emotions involved? This practice is inspired by David Hochney's arr works, stage design. His design, like Die Frau Ohne Schatten and Magic Flute, one play has more than twenty different scenes combining different set of lighting to issue story, which greatly impressed me.

Since my research is about communication of digital media in theatre which is difficult for traditional theatre to achieve. I am thinking, what kind of skills (like projection?) could achieve that live acting ? Must well combine with the live play's setting? And what else? Will audience still feel like watching a feel but play?

HOW CAN DITITAL MEDIA COMMUNICATE IN THE THEATRE ?

How can digital media communicate in the theatre ?

Last weekend I went to the Cochrane Theatre to see a production called Kellerman, which, coincidentally, is related to my research- the combination of digital media with live performance. Below are some of my thoughts and questions.

The story is about a man who is suffering the traumatic events of his past and has been taken into the psychological hospital. He tried to prove everyone wrong by changing the order of events that led to the disappearance of everything he loved. The whole story is similar to that of the film The Butterfly Effect..

The play is incredible showsing the story of characters' real lives, their inner states and the past at the same time.... How? the whole performance the stage was divided into two horizontal layers (upper and lower) and at times these layers were themselves sub-divided. The director brilliantly combined projection with live action in order to achieve this.

Take one scene( picture 2/8) for example. The upper stage is a hospital room in the past, with a female patient sitting with her back to the audience on a bed. The background of this setting is a projection which is the female patient's face - a view which the audience could not have. Therefore, two physical angles were presented simultaneously. The lower stage, left, is the actor's room in the hospital (real life), and the right is the weather of outside representing his emotional(or inner) state. ( my understanding).

So, in this scene, many angles, times and spaces are presented for audience. Personally, I think this scene in the hospital illustrates a strong use of projection on the stage to represent the emotion of the characters and to increase the emotional content of the story. I mean that not only do we can see the actor in his hospital room, but we can see his past as well. I mean, this scene show a complex relationship of the male actor- lower stage showing his action, the woman in the upper stage which causally connects to his current state, and the projection of the weather seems to illustrate his inner emotions. My point is, it is hard to imagine a more traditional staging without any projection to represent all these complexity of time and inner state.

The upper stage which is the projection in the upper stage is a close up of the females face may be seen as the man's past which may be why he currently affecting his present life. Therefore, the upper's projection takes an most important part to rise the emotion and explain relationship. That means, this communication of story can only be achieved by projection, when it comes to traditional theatre the close up is not available?

This scene impressive me, a normal angle of scene which we are familiar and can see in the theatre is show in the projection, and another angle of scene we can mainly see in the film is presented on the stage!!! Ingenious stage design and well combine with projection.

There also other scenes, like hypnosis, struggling inner state and changing time and space, showing over view of the atmosphere of story with details which presented by the projections.

The play presented more than two physical angles, two or more different time and ininner state of actors on the stage at the same time, which is hard to achieve by traditional play. The enagement of digital media which is usage of projection during the play do develop the story like the scene in the hospital. Audience can see the overview of this scene and another angle from the projection which presting detials rising the emotion.

All in all, the form of the play is completely new and the setting design is intellectual. And I am impressive by the combination with film( ? ) or projection(?) and live performance. However, during the play, there were some questions in my mind, some thing not sure, some thing confuse. There were some moment that I felt like sitting in a cinema watching a film but a play... Why I would have the feeling that I was watching a film? Although there is no doubt that the investment of projection develop the story showing different time, space and inner state make sense to audience. Is that because it over use projections on the stage? If yes. How to balance live action and projection? Does the form or concept of projection increase the level of emotional invlovement? Or reduce? How to distinguish theatre and film? How to balance the usage of digital media in theatre?

TERROR 2009: THEATRE OF HORROR AND GRAND GUIGNOL

Terror 2009: Theatre of Horror and Grand Guignol at Southwark Playhouse

Four new short plays exploring horror and Grand Guignol, spun together with magic, cabaret and other oddities for the Halloween season.

The plays can not see in normal theatre, which are completely new. As to me, I have not see these kind of plays in the theatre before in my own countries.

I do love the first play which is Psychogeography by Lucy Kirkwood and directed by Adam Meggido. Psychogeography is a horror story happened in a house which was a killer's house and lots female vitims were killed. It is about a couple in there and the women wanted to move in the house.

The director who present ghostly scene in the live performance and lead audience into horror ambience is brilliant. The lighting of the whole play mainly used an oil lamp and an electric torch only. Audiences could only see partly of the actors and stage, since the lighting source, the oil lamp or torch, was limited, which means the stage, killer's room, was mainly dark, as a result people would more easy scare or feel unconformable when in dark. What is more, the usage of torch would greatly and easily lead audiences to see what director wants them to see. In addition, these kind of lighting also create great visual images which are black and white with shadows. That is why I thought the director is outstanding. Director also ably presented the scene of ghost using physical futures of human being which is human eyes can not see anything from the change of light lighting in dark . One of the scene, the ghost suddenly shows up in the stage and disappears in one second.

PS: It will show until 24th October 2009

An international showcase for talent

I visited Frieze Art Fair which is an international contemporary art fair

taking place in London every year this weekend.

The fair, personal opinion, offer me an opportunity to understand more

a trend of contemporary in current world, which real worth visiting

expecially for me an art student.

I do excited about the art works being displayed, not only I get close to

art which did by famous artists like Anish kapoor, Jean DuBuffet,

Louise Bourgeois, Andy Warhols, but other art works which including

various styles. I think, being an artist, one of the worst thing is to do

art work only because people in general love it. Fortunatly, I could

see art which involving enormous forms and cuttingedge materials

being presented by artists, . Not copying others, like famous or popular

artists'. I can see artists are thinking and creating through their works

as well. I do love the fair where I got large number of positive emotions

and creative ideas.
Anish Kapoor brings audiences a new visual imag

a new way of projection

cityscape created by silver cutleries

material from our daily life

painting created by letter with different size, color and perspectiv

There are a lots of other art works which havent upload
